A common question we hear at Providence Self Storage is what’s the best type of lock for our Providence Self Storage units? This is a great question and worthy of further exploration. Generally, there are three different types of locks you can choose from to secure your self storage unit:
- the combination lock,
- the standard pad lock key lock, and
- the disc lock.
Let’s look at the advantages of each type below.
Combination lock
The classic combination lock comes with a three-digit combination and is generally the least expensive of the three most common types of locks. However, if the combination is lost or forgotten, you will have to cover the cost to have the old lock removed from your unit and pay for a replacement lock. The money you save up front won’t cover the cost of these potential expenses.
Standard key pad lock
The standard key pad lock removes the stress of trying to remember the three-digit combination, which is great for those of us with a less-than-perfect memory. Also, since you’re always going to have your keys with you when you visit your self storage unit, all you need to do is add another key to your key chain!
Disk lock
If you’re looking for an alternative to the combination lock or Pad Lock key lock, we encourage people to consider the disk lock for added security. The disk lock is believed to be the most tamper-proof lock on the market. Without claiming to be “pick-proof” you can still have the peace of mind that the disk lock packs a powerful punch of safety when it comes to protecting your valuables.
Disc lock technical data:
- Hardened steel shackle for extra cut resistance
- H-pin cylinder helps prevent picking
- Double deadbolt locking to guard against pulling
- Key retaining feature ensures padlock is not left unlocked
- Fully shielded design minimizes shackle exposure
We know that a sense of security plays a major role for our self storage customers when considering placing their valuables in our facility’s care. Educating our clients about the benefits of each type of lock helps give the peace of mind and confidence that our self storage customers are looking for!
Providence Self Storage only sells the disk locks designed for the Self Storage Customer.
