Why Use a Storage Unit for Your Business

October 11, 2020 By Don Gracia

Is your business in dire need of additional storage space? Perhaps you require a quick solution to the latter, one that doesn’t add to your overhead cost? If so, then you might want to consider using rental self-storage units as a solution. How is this so?

Now you might have already used a self-storage service for personal reasons. Perhaps you’ve had to downsize your home or relocate to a new residence? In any case, you will need someplace to hold your belongings until you can decide what to do with them. Well, businesses can face a similar predicament in that most establishments require ample space to operate — restaurants, showrooms, department stores, pet shops, etc.

Look around, and you will find that there are self-storage facilities that cater specifically to businesses. While it is unlikely that you’ll be able to run operations directly from the storage facility, you are free to use the space (except using it as store/office space) to further your business.

If you find that you are running out of storage space at work or for your business, then you may want to consider opting for off-site rental SELF storage units. However, is that the best option available?

What advantages can businesses expect when renting a self-storage unit?

Indeed, self-storage units can be a big boon for businesses, and it all boils down to flexibility. Let us say that your business needs to relocate, but the place isn’t ready yet. You can’t afford to cease operations and need a place to store your assets temporarily. Rental self-storage services fit into that picture perfectly and help facilitate a smoother transition.

Another area where the flexibility of self-storage facilities shines is when you’re dealing with fluctuations in operation. For instance, the business might be slow at the beginning of the year but eventually ramps up towards the holidays. If so, then you should hold on to surplus stocks and equipment until you require them.

Any other reason why a business should rent a storage unit?

In many cases, businesses don’t just tackle responsibilities around the production and sale of goods. Your business may likewise handle logistics, which traditionally means leasing a warehouse. Self-storage units are more affordable and convenient than the latter and offer more bang for your buck.

Some might also argue that it’s a good idea to spread your stocks across different storage locations, so they’re not all in one place. Doing so reduces your risk should anything happen to one of your storage units. You obviously won’t have this luxury with warehouses unless you’re a large corporation.

Another reason why rental container storage has become so attractive to businesses over the years is that it might be possible to get a tax break out of it. This is something that you would want to verify with your accountant.

Note that self-storage facilities often offer special rates to commercial users. This is because businesses usually lease storage units for months or years at a time. Hence, the managers at these facilities are often happy to give you a discount, if it means getting the storage facility fully booked for most of the year.

PACKING & STORAGE TIPS

August 16, 2020 By Don Gracia

PACKING & STORAGE TIPS

Take a list of what you will be storing so the manager can help you accurately determine the storage space you need.

Make a plan of the unit and how your items will be arranged. Leave an aisle in the center for easy access to the rear.

Never store food or items that attract pests and, for your safety, never store hazardous materials such as flammable liquids.

Use the full height to take advantage of your storage space. Shelving will help organize your space.

Label boxes on all sides. Keep a list that details contents.

Store frequently used items near the front.

Fill boxes to avoid tipping or crushing when stacked, with the heaviest on bottom.

Disassemble tables, bed frames, cabinets, etc. Wrap and label accordingly for easy assembly at a later date.

Make sure all appliances are clean and dry before storage. Wedge refrigerator and freezer doors ajar.

Store couches on end, chairs seat to seat, tables upside down with legs pointing up. Use dust covers/bed sheets to cover.

Mirrors, records and flat items should be stored on end, not flat. Books should be stored flat, and in small boxes.

Clothing and drapes should be stored hanging inside wardrobes. Use drawers in dressers to store delicate items.

5 Things to Do Before Moving Out of Your Rental – August 2020

August 12, 2020 By Don Gracia

Providence Self Storage is a family owned and operated business.   www.ProvidenceSelfstorae.com

After sending the last of your belongings with the movers San Diego, you still have a lot of work to do before handing in your keys. Properly preparing your rental for the final inspection process will help you receive most of your deposit back.

Here are five items that you should complete at the end of your rental period.

tips-for-moving-

Check for Hidden Items

Even after placing all your belongings in boxes, you might find hidden items while you’re cleaning up. It is important to remove all of these items to avoid incurring storage fees from the rental agency.

In many jurisdictions, rental agencies are required to keep your belongings on hand for a specific amount of time before putting them up for auction. You’ll be responsible for paying all the fees associated with that lengthy storage period.

Make sure to look on top of your fridge, under your oven, and inside all of the kitchen cupboards to locate hidden items. Also, search around in the bathroom cabinets and drawers, high shelves in the closet, and inside vanities for items to send with the San Diego movers.

Clean All Appliances

The cleaner you leave your rental, the less of your deposit money you’ll have to pay to professional cleaners. Place a cooler full of your food from the fridge in the San Diego moving van to make room for the cleaning process.

Disassemble the fridge shelves and drawers to access all of the nooks and crannies. While the small components soak in the sink, wipe down the inside of your fridge and freezer with a rag covered in cleanser. Dry and reassemble the cleaned parts to make your fridge look as good as new.

Pull the grills out of your oven and spray them down with a degreasing product. Scrub out the top, bottom, and sides of the oven, including the inside door area. Don’t forget to wash off the inside and outside of the toilets, sinks, and tubs.

Wash the Walls

Scrub all your walls clean with a melamine foam pad to remove crayon marks and greasy handprints. The melamine foam also works for scuffmarks created while moving your items out to the moving van.

Wash the walls again with warm, soapy water and a soft rag to remove dust and dirt marks. Although high gloss walls usually come clean in one pass, low gloss paint could require a couple scrubbing sessions.

Scrub the Carpets

After cleaning the walls, scrub the carpet with a professional grade cleaning machine. Use an approved cleanser that loosens dirt and sucks up the aftermath.

If you see heavy stains, consider pre-treating the affected areas the day before running the carpet cleaning machine. Allow the freshly cleaned carpets to fully dry before walking on them again to complete the move out inspection.

Go Over the Move Out Inspection Checklist

Make sure to go through the move out inspection checklist on your own before inviting your property owner up to look. Address any areas that don’t meet the criteria on the checklist to avoid fees taken out of your deposit.

In addition to the areas listed above, you’ll also want to clean the gutters, sweep out the garage, and wipe down the ceiling fans to make the rental look as clean as possible.

Key Takeaway

Look high and low to make sure all your belongings go with you

Deep clean your appliances until they shine

Scrub down the walls

Clean up the carpets

A final check of the rental before turning in your keys

5 Great Reasons to Put Your Belongings into Self Storage

August 6, 2020 By Don Gracia

  1. If you are moving into another house or apartment. Self storage can make the transition from one home to another easier. It can be especially helpful if your new home is smaller than your first, or if you don’t want to move some of your older belongings into your new space.
  2. If you want to de-clutter your living environment. Sometimes our lives do become overwhelming – literally – and our homes can quickly become cluttered with all the things we have been collecting over time. De-cluttering can help you uncover space you forgot you had, can help improve the comfort of your home and make your space feel lighter and more enjoyable to be in. Self storage gives you the option of putting prized belongings somewhere safe and out of the way.
  3. If you are a traveler. Self storage offers peace of mind for travelers who are always on the move and do not necessarily have a permanent home. Self storage offers the convenience of flexibility and safety for these persons.
  4. If you run a home business. If you are running a home business that has stock, you know that keeping your business merchandise, supplies, and equipment in a secure, organized and designated location can be a challenge. Self storage offers one solution for home-based businesses that do not utilize retail space or an office location outside of the home.
  5. If you have seasonal storage needs. These can range from gardening tools and equipment to holiday decorations, things we usually pack away for months at a time until they are needed again. But what about other things like a boat. Some boat owners are not comfortable leaving their boats outdoors and exposed to the elements during the long winter. Self storage is an option for these kinds of seasonal needs.
